Safety concerns about a newly discovered element, Q*, were reportedly communicated to the board by employees before CEO Sam Altman's termination. The undisclosed nature of these concerns and Q*'s revelation contributed to internal dynamics leading to the leadership change at the organization.

OpenAI, the giant in generative artificial intelligence (AI), was reportedly engaged in the development of an advanced discovery that staff researchers had warned could pose a threat to humanity. CEO Sam Altman faced termination by OpenAI's board last Friday, but an unexpected turn of events occurred on Tuesday when he was reinstated following a near-unanimous threat of resignation from the company's 750-strong staff.

The reasons behind Altman's initial dismissal remain unclear, but sources point to a previously undisclosed letter and an AI algorithm as crucial factors leading up to the upheaval within the AI start-up. The sources indicate that the letter, in addition to other concerns, contributed to the board's decision to relieve Altman of his position.
